Even if I don't post on you... I swear Facebook hasn't stolen my time... but it is just so damn good for snooping...

Well anyway, just for any of you who don't already know...

Beej and I have some big news. We bought a house this week!

We’ve only been looking for about three weeks, so we’re still in a bit of shock over how quickly it has all progressed! It is close to both of our workplaces, has all features we wanted, and we’re really excited about it! We don’t take possession until July 19^th (!!one week after my birthday!!) so there is a lot of packing and preparing to do before we officially feel like homeowners. After six years in apartments, we want to throw money at something that matters, and have a place that is our own.

I have posted some photos of the house (from the realtor) online, the link is below. It’s in Fort Rouge, on Carter Street. Tonight we drove by to see the SOLD sign! We can hardly believe it!!

Hello Mr. Livejournal. Remember me?

Probably not.

New job is going really well. The material is really, really, really dry, but I am mustering though. Not without complaining of course. The workplace itself is awesome. I am really happy that I made the move and I know that I will get the hang of all this financial planning stuff eventually. They keep saying that the learning curve is steep, and it sure is. I am starting to make connections and things are clicking, which my co-workers and boss say is impressive. Woo. I just have to start drinking more tea to stay awake. The status of my fellow trainee is at this point unknown, I will know more tomorrow if he shows up. Ah well, makes me look like a real champ. :P

This month has been very busy. Here's your quick run down:

January 1 - Liz went back to Montreal. Tears ensued; Harvey's was not had by all.
January 2 - Started new job. Everything was ready and waiting for me, shock ensues.
January 3-5 - Training galore. Find out that people actually DO work Monday-Friday, 9-5!
January 6/7- Experiencing my first regular weekend off! Ok it is a novelty for me!
January 8 - Crazy shiznit goes down at my old workplace. Firings/quittings ensue, deluge of e-mail begins!
January 8-12 -Soccer (beej), training, illness, beej hurts his back, more training
January 13/14 - Second regular weekend off. Is this really what normal people feel like? Christmas decorations finally taken down. Hockey skates are purchased, as are fancy new shoes for walking!
January 15-19 - Soccer (beej), training, PanAm pool/whatever it is called for track walking.
January 20/21 - Tragically Hip concert is better than I had expected, general weekend shenanigans.
January 22-26 - Training etc, wash, rinse, repeat.
January 27/28 - WEEKEND. I am getting the hang of this weekend thing! Watched the show Ed's Up on OLN and saw my Uncles Karl and Martin showing Ed Robertson (of Barenaked Ladies fame) a thing or two about welding. Pretty cool! They're really... straightforward guys, and apparently they swear a lot. Ah well, Ed swore right back at them! It will be on again on Wednesday as far as I can tell. Liz says I have to record it, so I will.

That's about it I think. We're going to try to go to the gym/track at least once a week, and we plan to skate this week as well. My mum thinks I need a helmet, she is likely right. I'm looking forward to it. More training rounds out this week and next, and then I am supposedly ready to handle the real thing. Eeek!

I skipped soccer tonight, so I should likely head to bed soon. Perhaps I will update again soon? Je ne sais pas!

Gah! I am so nervous!

It's after midnight and I officially start my new job today! Eeek! I had no idea how quickly the time would fly... but it did!

The time spent with my family was awesome, it was really hard to let my sister go back to Montreal today, but I toughed it out. I miss her already and now it is hitting home how much I miss my parents. But we had a fantastic time, and my resignation really let me spend more time with them than we had originally banked on. My freezer is still pretty full of mum's cooking, and beej and I look forward to getting back to a bit of a normal schedule. It just seems so very very quiet here tonight.

I finally wrote my mini-bio as requested by the new company, they apparently will be putting that, and a photo of me, up on their Intranet site. It is weird to go from a company that never recognized a single thing their employees did, to one that welcomes you with open arms. That's a good weird.

Ok, I should try to get some rest, and maybe some more fluids. Liz ( pezliz) and I decided it would be great fun to have nasty colds for the past 4 days, and I want to be rested and ready for tomorrow.

I just need to get these butterflies in my stomach to fly in formation and I will be all set!

I QUIT!

Yeah, you read it, I quit. Well resigned actually, whatever you want to call it. I accepted the offer on Wednesday, but it has been sinking in since then.
The reaction (from those that matter to me) has been good, I was nervous when I handed in my letter of resignation. I have given almost two years of my life to my current job and there are some parts of it I will deeply miss. There are other parts however... well, you likely understand what I mean.

My last day at my current job is December 22 - the day my sastre arrives from Montreal!!
My dad will be here tomorrow, so I am cleaning like mad! Mum comes December 18, that's only 10 days away.

I got a new job and start January 2, 2007. A fantastic way to start the new year.
It looks like an amazing opportunity, and the higher salary won't hurt either. ;)

I'll have 10 days off between the old job and new job, and all of those days will be spent with my loved ones! Apparently (according to those who love me) this is the break I need to make a fresh start in 2007.

I am so excited!!! :)

My dad will be here in one week. ONE WEEK.

That's so soon!

Today I organised the linen closet, got a metal bedframe from a co-worker for the fun room bed, put said frame together, and spent my $50 at Shopper's to get my 20x the points. Next week I'll go spend my $150 free at Shopper's and get Christmas gifts. Ok, so stocking stuffers, not "gifts".

The cat seems confused by the bed on the frame, but she's on it now. Don't tell dad!

It's 2:20am and I should be asleep, tomorrow brings curling, laundry, groceries and soccer. Then Monday I get to see what happens when the TL's decide to totally renovate our schedule and face the possible wrath of my boss. Mwahahahahaha.

Also, no word yet on the job I interviewed for last week. I will put something here when I find out for those who are curious. :)

Miss Puss - November 17, 1987 - November 13, 2006

I miss my kitty.

I know my sister, pezliz, has already written about this, but I just wanted to write some of what I feel about losing our pet of 18 years.

It breaks my heart, even if I know it was the right thing to do.  I cannot imagine how mum felt taking her to the vet on Monday, or how she dreaded telling Liz and me that Miss Puss was gone. I thank her for making the right decision, for sitting with Miss Puss as she drifted off to sleep, and for making sure she knew she was loved in her final moments.

It is hard to think about our house without Miss Puss. She came along to fill the void left when we had to give our dog away, and she was always there when you needed her. Ok, so she was always just out of reach and made you work to pet her, but when she did cuddle, it meant so much more.

I liked that she was standoffish, and it was even funnier to see her gravitate to those who hated cats - she really seemed to know how to find the cat haters like Beth and Donna. I think even they miss her now.

She tolerated the sticky hands of so many little children. Emily, Marcel, Peter, Josh, Brett, Gabrielle, Olivia, Nathaniel. I don't think she ever lashed out at any of them, just gave them the look.

Miss Puss liked cheese, peas, carrots, and eating with her paws. Sometimes she needed you to shake her food dish for her, just to make sure there was something in there.

She always had a love/hate relationship with snow. She would run out onto the deck after the first snow and then proceed to prance and step lightly with a look of total disgust on her face.

I will miss her voice when mum has us on speakerphone, and I will miss her presence when I get home next. She never forgot who I was, even if I have been out of the house for nearly 10 years now. I cried the most when I said goodbye to her in May, somewhere inside I knew it would be for the last time.

I miss you our delicate kitty, with your milky nose, your loud meows, your forehead kisses (those really were great) and your quiet dignity. I hope you are in a better place, wherever that may be, and that there is a chair that looks just like dad's for you to sleep on.

You were definitely loved and are missed.

While the saying may be “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” I just wanted to share some of what we got up to when we went away.

First, it was probably the greatest trip of my life. We did everything we wanted to, didn’t hold back, and didn’t worry about how much it cost, or how long it would take, or any of the normal worries in day to day life. It was an honest to goodness vacation; and after 8 months of planning it didn’t disappoint!

I could go on for pages and pages (and probably will), but some of you have already heard it all in person or on the phone, and anyone else who wants to know can call me or drop by for details! I’ll just go through the days and hit the highlights; there are a lot of them!!

Thursday, October 19

Flight into Las Vegas arrives at 10pm, we all get on a chartered bus and head to the hotel.
Those who arrived in the days before are actually waiting to greet us when we get to the Riviera. Hugging, swinging in air, and general merriment ensues.
We check out Mark and Jacie’s suite (bride and groom) and eventually a party happens there.
3am search for food leads us out of the Riviera, past Denny’s, through the Stardust, and back toward the Riviera. Mark, Jacie, Beej and I dine at the Peppermill. YUM
Bedtime… 4:30am

Friday, October 20

Wake up at 7:30am.
Breakfast with Richard at the Stardust where he discovers Portuguese sausage is ranked the same as Spam on the menu.
Richard, Jen, Dana, Beej and I go shopping at the Boulevard Mall in “real” Vegas.
I drop $420 USD on clothes and have Dippin’ Dots.
Walgreens to get gifts, sunblock and American pop.
First trip down the strip.
Seafood/Prime Rib buffet at the Frontier. So-so.
$1.99 margaritas at the Frontier… delish!
Head down to Treasure Island (T.I.) to see the Sirens of T.I. – sexy ladies tempt sexy pirates. Includes pyrotechnics and water, two Vegas requirements.
Another party in the bride and groom’s suite.
More drinking in the first 48 hours than I have done in 4 years. Woah.
Bed at 3am

Saturday, October 21
Breakfast at our hotel at 830am with Brent, Richard, Jen, and beej
Jacie (bride) puts 4 quarters into a slot machine and wins $2500!!
Beej and I head to the Las Vegas Hilton to catch the monorail, walk through Star Trek: The Experience and see Ferengi and Borg.
Monorail!! We take it all the way to the south end of the strip and hit the MGM Grand. Wow.
Back to the Riviera to get ready for the wedding.
Wedding… takes all of 15 minutes. It was really quite nice though and everyone looked great. Beej in a suit was sexy. He cleans up well.
Speeches and drinks in the bridal suite post-wedding.
Dinner followed the wedding, it was fantastic.
Jacie’s grandmother was a bit tipsy, made several references to Brent’s ‘package’ and she thought he was my date.
Crazy cab ride to the MGM Grand to see KÀ by Cirque du Soleil. Seriously mindblowing.
Back to the Riviera, did some gambling at the slots, drank, hit up Slots-A-Fun and CircusCircus.
Bed at 2am.

Sunday, October 22

Out of bed at 10am, beej heads out with the boys to do some sports betting
Afternoon spent in a bed with Brent, watching football.
Joe wins $420 on football, beej loses $50, Brent wins $25.
Meet up with Dana, Mark, Jacie, Brent, Richard, Jen. Head off to Fremont Street in a kickass luxury bus.
Fremont Street Experience, deep fried twinkies, free margaritas and beads.
Brent, Richard, Jen, beej and I head to the Rio for their buffet.
We proceed to get drunk on food. Seriously, the options at this place were endless, you name a cuisine, it was there.
I found a free shuttle to take us all to Caesar’s Palace.
Tour Caesar’s Palace. Ho-lee crap. Brent said... it's a big gong show, he was right.
Party in Richard and Jen’s room.
At this point the bride, groom, and most of the people who attended the wedding have headed back to Winnipeg.
Bed at 3:30am after way too many drinks, jello shooters, more drinks, and reviewing sexy lady business cards.

Monday, October 23

Wake up around 11am, say good bye to Richard and Jen.
And then there were four. Beej, me, Brent, Joe.
We head to the Stratosphere. Beej makes it to the top but his hands show his fear of hights. Sweaty, cold, shaky hands.
Brent, Joe, and I go on a ride called The Big Shot that shoots us up the point of the Stratosphere tower. 4 G’s. 1081 feet in the air.
North-strip adventures back to the Riviera.
Back down to the south strip, we tour Mandalay Bay, THEHotel by Mandalay Bay and Luxor.
We hit Excalibur and totally enjoy The Tournament of Kings. RUSSIA RUSSIA!!
Toured Caesar’s Palace again, and saw the fountains at the Bellagio.
Walked all the way back to the Riviera.
Bedtime… no idea.

Tuesday, October 24

Wake up at 9am.
Hoover Dam tour from 1000am-4pm with Brent, Joe, Beej, me.
The Hoover Dam is very cool, and we got to walk into Arizona.
Toured the Aladdin and tried to go to their buffet, but they were closed.
Ended up touring through the Bellagio and eating at their buffet.
Amazing food at the Bellagio.
Went to T.I. to get a better viewing of the Sirens of T.I. (heard they go topless for the later shows, but no such luck!)
Started to walk back to the Riviera; walked through the Venetian and picked up our tickets for Blue Man Group.
Hung out with Brent in our room. Brent compliments me on all the research I did for the trip and says that it made everything easier. Woo!
We then went to Slots-A-Fun. Brent wins at Blackjack, we call it a night around 2am.

Wednesday, October 25

And then there were two. Beej and I are on our own in Las Vegas.
Take off early to see the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay.
We realize that I have left the Blue Man Group tickets in our hotel room, at the other end of the strip.
I act like a brat for some of the day, mad because I forgot the tickets. I am a dumbass.
After the Shark Reef we take the free monorail to Excalibur, we then head to New York New York.
Had great pizza and toured New York New York, B.J.’s favourite hotel thus far.
Venture farther down the strip and find both M&M World and the World of Coca-Cola.
Free M&M’s, free 3-D M&M movie, lots of M&M ‘crap’ at M&M World.
Coke seems to have a little more to offer. B.J. attempts to assert Coke’s superiority over Pepsi, this is a debate he will never win.
Decided to drink Coke from around the world; some were a good idea, others were vile (I’m talking about you Beverly the clear, carbonated bile from Italy!!)
We got to the Venetian, booked our private gondola ride for after Blue Man Group, then the lovely people at the Venetian re-printed our tickets for us. Yay!
Blue Man Group = wickedawesomecoolfunamazing A Blue Man sat on me!!!!!!
Very romantic gondola ride inside the Venetian. The gondolier sang the theme from the Godfather, and La Vie En Rose.
Back to the Riviera for a quiet night, played some slots, just relaxed.

Thursday, October 26
Wake up, pack, check out of the hotel by 10:00am. Check our bags with the bellman.
Head to the Las Vegas Hilton so we can partake in Star Trek: The Experience.
Lots and lots of fun, they have a big museum of Star Trek, two rides, a geeky gift shop, and of course we ate at Quark’s Bar & Restaurant.
Both of us enjoyed our hamBORGers, beej drank Romulan Ale.
We purchase passes for the Monorail, tour the MGM Grand and see the lions there.
Went to the Tropicana to see Bodies, really really cool.
Check out Hooters Casino Hotel… hooterific.
Back to NY NY for some more pizza and pop.
Monorail to the Hilton, we give away our passes to two very shocked Brits.
Walked to the Riviera, ended up getting a limo to the airport for the same price as a cab, very stylish way to leave Las Vegas!
Play the slots at the airport and win nothing.
Arrive home at 5:30am, exhausted but so very happy.

So yeah, that’s our trip. I guess it isn’t as short as I had planned but that is what you get! I stuck links in there if you want to see some of the places and things we went to. I have two albums of photos online if you want to check them out too. I gambled, and lost, $21 USD, but had lots of fun doing it.

Being a part of Jacie and Mark’s wedding was great, and they appreciated all the friends who made the effort, and expense, of going to Las Vegas for their wedding. Their families were all very thankful and made sure that all of us knew it. Seriously, we could not have imagined a better trip. We’d do it all again, well, except for that ride on the Stratosphere…

We're off!

We leave tonight around 2045 and get into Las Vegas at 2200 Pacific.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!! We are so excited! Just doing a little last minute packing and cleaning, and we will be out of here. Ophelia is visiting with Dave and Luthien for the week.

The wedding (OF OUR FRIENDS) is on Saturday afternoon, so tomorrow I am telling/asking people to go shopping with me. Torrid here I come! The Boulevard Mall awaits my money...

We plan to tour all the hotels, take in everything Las Vegas has to offer, and head out to the Hoover Dam at some point too!

I am so excited it's not funny. I haven't started packing quite yet, but I want to.

It will be hard to concentrate at work for the next two days too, my brain is already on vacation! Unfortunately I have a lot to get done before going away.

So I have dates for December! WOOO! My family is coming to Winnipeg!!!!!!!!!

Dad - Saturday, Decmber 9th to Tuesday, December 26th
Mum - Monday, December 18th to Tuesday, December 26th
Liz - Friday, December 22 to Monday, January 1st.

Holy doodle it will be crazy times! Lots of trips to the airport, lots of trips to the mall, lots of time with family. :)

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Holy cow I am 27.

B.J. and I celebrated my birthday-eve by going out for fantastic sushi, then gelato (sorbetto for me.. wow so good) and then we walked in the Leo Mol sculpture garden in the dark. The moon is huge and amazing. Fantastic evening!!

Beej got me a bunch of bath-relaxation related things, I was pleasantly surprised (and for those who will ask, no Lush stuff, he felt I had enough already..)

Yay for birthdays!! I have to go today and pick up the parcel Liz sent to me. Whee!! :)
